Greenfield was one of the first 35 cities and towns in the State to receive from Boston the designation as a Green Community. It has converted its capped landfill into a solar array that now satisfies approximately 40 percent of Greenfield’s municipal electricity needs. There is an Energy/Sustainability Coordinator in the City’s planning department. Other towns in the county have similarly encouraged alternative energy sourcing. Wind turbines are in Savoy and there is growth in both arenas.
There is also a county goal that each of its towns be completely wired for high speed internet access.
